Overview and Course Objectives

• Identify the social, psychological, spiritual, and physical needs of the sick, aged, and injured.
• Develop a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
• Identify signs and symptoms of common diseases.
• Implement basic nursing care and evaluates the need for corrective measures within the constraints of his/her job.
• Identify complications and report and record them.
• Demonstrate purposeful communication with patients, family, and healthcare team members.
• Recognize the responsibilities and limitations of the Nursing Assistant role and recognize the role of other health team members in establishing and maintaining a cooperative relationship.
• Utilize the knowledge and skills obtained at the first level of nursing as preparation or upward mobility for continued professional growth.
• Meet the eligibility requirements of the State Department of Health Services to take the Nursing Assistant Certification Examination.
• At the conclusion of the course, the students can take the state CNA competency exam, preparing them to be hired into the healthcare industry.
